Last month, credit union professionals from ABCUL Wales Forum participated in a two, day management training courses, as part of an initiative to develop aspiring leaders in the credit union sector across Wales.

Led by Sara Barrow from Prosper Training and Consultancy, the course covered a number of topics such as personal management style, giving performance feedback, setting a business strategy, creating engagement motivation and appraisal review training.

There were 12 participants from six member credit unions who found the training “easy to understand and very well planned” and left feeling “more confident to address competency issues.”

There was a great deal of enthused participant engagement and the passion to learn is something that is prominent throughout the Welsh sector, says Forum Training Officer, Christina Stoneman: “I found the course very positive and the ability of participants to collaborate and learn together has filled me with great optimism for the future of our sector in Wales.

“There is a great feeling of cooperation between credit unions in Wales. Continued cooperation together will improve how we provide our valued service to members and the communities we serve.”

A theme that was explored at the ABCUL Annual Conference last month was about the future of the movement. Christina is delighted to help the future leaders of today, she added: “As a sector, we are seeing an attitude of personal development at the top of credit unions agendas. I am delighted to help future leaders of the movement as they prepare for the next stage of their career.”

It has been agreed across the Wales Forum that one funded place will attend The Credit Union Development Education (DE) training course in August and to support a place on the CU futures programme to further the development of two successful applicants to which they will report back in their next meeting and the wider credit union community.
