90% of Bradford District Credit Union members are satisfied with their service

In an attempt to better understand their members’ needs, Bradford District Credit Union recently ran a members’ survey and was delighted to received overwhelmingly positive results.

With the help of an independent market research company, BDCU sent the survey to all of its 6700 and 30% of members responding. Like most credit unions, BDCU is keen to understand their members' satisfaction with the service and want to know what areas of the organisation they can improve on.

In a fantastic endorsement of the credit union 90% of respondents find their customer service "Very good" and 82% of members feel having used BDCU's services, they feel their finances are under control. One member said: "I'm not a saver, so when I heard about the credit union I thought I'd try it – I'm so thankful I did as I now have a saving plan.

"I was going through a tough time financially BDCU is working with me while I get back on my feet. The help with loans has enabled me to sort out my finances which I am very grateful for. If it wasn't for BDCU, I wouldn't be able to do what I have done!"

Speaking on behalf of all BDCU staff, CEO Andrew Bowker believes the best way to move forward and to continue as a valuable community asset is by listening to member feedback.  He said: “Our annual survey is a very important tool to help our credit union understand the needs of our members.

“We’re delighted to see such overall member satisfaction with Bradford District Credit Union. As a co-operative, it is essential to serve our members with the utmost excellence and care and good to see so many responding to the survey. We’ve made a point of listening to past feedback to ensure we’re providing the best possible service and we will continue to be a valuable asset to our community”.

The survey comes at a time when BDCU has been working hard to improve the financial well-being of its community. Last month they hosted its ‘Buy Nowt’ festival in the city centre. The festival is an alternative to Black Friday which campaigns against poverty caused by consumer debt and excess. Since its first event three years ago, organisers believe austerity has bitten deeper and increasing numbers of people are feeling the financial burden of the Christmas period. They are keen to promote a low tech, lower cost and less stressful Christmas for Bradfordians.

BDCU co-hosted the free event last week, alongside a number of Bradford organisations offering free drop-in debt and money advice sessions to the community. Ian Brewer, Financial Inclusion Officer at BDCU, said: “Black Friday can place people under enormous pressure. Buy Nowt is all about helping find a way out and different approaches.

“With great support from Manningham Housing Association and Incommunities, we are able to offer debt and guidance throughout the event, as well as offering positive savings alternatives through the Credit Union. Plus has been lots of creative ideas for the festive season, and plenty of things to make and take away with you. All at no charge whatsoever".
